Collective action in the European Union

Presentation

The purpose of this class is to provide students with various tools to analyse how the relations between administrations and organised groups have evolved as a result of European integration. It provides an up-to-date overview of the debates taking place in the fields of European studies and of the sociology of public action, and specifies their scopes and implications for students who intend to pursue a profession related to European integration. Particular focus is placed on professional groups whose contours and activities are called into question by European standards.

More specifically, we will examine the nature and conditions of their involvement, as well as the tensions between national and European administrations. Three different interpretive keys are successively presented and each is used to examine delimited case studies. The examples covered are diverse but they allow for an integrated reflection and all lend themselves to general analyses.

Form of assessment

The number of ECTS credits and the assessment methods are likely to be different for students in credit exchange programmes.
